R-M Engineering was founded by Mr. Roberto R. Roy and Mr. Tomás Mendizábal, who retired after 10 years.
Mr. Roy is the President and C.E.O. since 1975. The company has had a distinguished career in the construction industry in the Republic of Panama.
Starting with small projects, especially with steel structures such as warehouses, the company grew in a gradual and solid manner, for the next 30 years.
Today, R-M is very respected nationally and figures among the top contractors of the country, having built all types of structures. Presently, it has jobs in several categories, like high rise condominiums, shopping malls, office centers, industrial structures, institutional buildings like schools, museums, universities, banks, hotels, the new main office of the Panama Public Registry in which RM made a complete design-build-finance-operate-transfer model for 7 years.
R-M was chosen by Frank Gehry and Associates to be the General Contractor and Project Manager for the new Biodiversity museum in Panama, a new daring and iconic milestone for the city. The construction of this building will be finished by 2009.
Services besides the construction of buildings include fast track project management, postensioned structures, design-build, pre-construction services, cost and feasibility studies, and structural design.
The company is recognized by its quality of work and easy trusting relationship with its clients. The company is very well respected, even by its own competitors. The record speaks by itself, R-M has never had, in 30 years, a lawsuit by any client, has never failed to deliver any building, and has never defaulted in any performance or bid bond.
Many of its works have won “Building of the Year Award” by the Panama Society of Architects and Engineers (SPIA). Lately, its La Ribera condo, won Best Building in Panama award of 2006, granted by Cemex.
RM participates actively in the community. Its President, Mr. Roy, just finished his tenure, after 9 years , as member of the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal. He has won many awards during his career, notably, Gran Cruz of the Manuel Amador Guerrero Order 2007, highest national honor for a civilian as a recognition of his Panama Canal work, Galardón Canal de Panamá for outstanding services to the waterway, “ Distinguished Engineering Alumnus of Georgia Tech 2005”, “Engineer of the Year 2004” by SPIA, “The William Ross Medal” for outstanding contribution to the construction industry 1987 by the Panama Construction Chamber, of which he is also a past president.
R-M´s full partners Laurencio Jaen (Georgia Tech, bachelor in Civil Engineering1971, Master in Construction Management 1973), and Jaime Jované (University of Panama, Civil Engineer 1979, secretary Panama Construction Chamber) have extensive experience in field operations, budgeting and construction management.
Presently, employees total around 1500, of which more than 200 are engineers, managers, accounting , office administration , payroll and purchasing staff, etc. Latest plans call for an increase in total employees due to high demand.
